NP NYAA Language Day Registrations Starts Now!!

Hi all NP NYAA members,

For those that had went for our NYAA introductory session, I am sure you have heard from us that we would be conducting Language Day sessions soon and I believe some of you are interested in taking up this opportunity to learn a new language to converse in.

I am glad to announce to all of you now that we are currently rolling out the registration and signups for our monthly Language Day sessions!!!

No idea what Language Day is about? No worries! I will fill you in more on what Language Day covers.

Language Day Details

Language Days is a monthly held session, there are a total of 10 sessions to commit to if you had signed up for Language Day.
We are offering three different type of languages - Japanese, French and Malay.
Taught by our fellow NYAA members themselves, you can expect relaxed and casual lessons where you will learn at a pace you are comfortable with.
At the same time, you can get to enjoy and have fun in the process of learning.
Expect a fun learning experience.
No prior experience is required! Learn from scratch the basic fundamentals of the language!
Make new friends.

Language Day is mostly held every first Tuesday of the month, from 6pm - 8pm, and it starts this June!

By signing up to take up on Language Day, you get to learn a new language while earning CCA points!

Registration for our Language Day sessions is now open to every NYAA member.

There is a maximum capacity for each language class and thus there are limited seats available! So what are you waiting for!?!?! Sign up now before the seats are taken up!!!

NDP 2011 Ushers Registration!

Hi all NP NYAA members,

As stated in the email we have sent out, the National Day Parade (NDP) Usher Volunteers registration has already started and they are recruiting volunteers till probably May 2011 (subject to changes). As there is a limit to the number of volunteers for NDP, for all the interested members out there, in order to avoid disappointment, do register early for it!!!

The activity NDP, as you know, would be held in August. Volunteers should also expect trainings to be conducted probably one or two months before the event.

Service (S) CCA points would be given for your commitment in this activity!!

You could use this activity to write in the service segment of your NYAA booklet as well! An usher's duties normally comprise of checking tickets, usher guests to their designated seats, answer general enquiries, interact wirh guests and encouraging as well as engaging guests to have fun!

Language Day Leaders/Mentors Recruitment!!

Hi all NP NYAA Chapter members,

I hope you are all enjoying your holidays, now that the exams are over.

If you have realised, for the Academic Year of 2011/2012, NP NYAA Chapter would be holding and conducting Language Day sessions, which is a monthly Language teaching event so that NYAA participants could jot down a language learnt as a skill in their NYAA booklet.

However, in order to ensure that Language Day runs successfully and gloriously, we need teachers to conduct the Language Day sessions and that's where you come in!

If you know how to speak any of these three languages, Malay, Japanese and French, which we are hoping to teach in our Language Day sessions, do join us and coach the other members in learning a new language.

May it be just the basics or even, being a master of the language, you are more than welcome to teach in our Language Day sessions. Don't worry if you do not know much of the language you chose as you will be planning with the rest of the mentors a teaching plan to suit yourself, so do join the mentoring team! :) Only open for current year 1s and 2s! (This activity requires much commitment as there are 10 sessions in total.)

More details about Language Day:

Teaching 3 Languages - Malay, Japanese, French
Teaching Plan/Schedule is crafted by the leaders/mentoring team.
Language Days are held on every 1st Tuesday of each month from 6pm to 8pm.
Since there are 3 Languages, there would be 3 classes on the same day and time.

So what is in it for you to take part in this mentoring team?:

You are definitely entitled to Leadership (L) CCA points for your commitment in this mentoring activity.
Leadership experience, useful knowledge learnt in managing and mentoring. Increasing your marketability of skills.
Making new friends (your students! ) and having fun!

The time has come again for our 2nd and last Bonding session of this semester. This time, it would be an entertaining movie screening session!! The purpose of this session is to foster bonds amongst our NYAA members. =)

It would be held at Blk 72 #03-03 on Wednesday, 12 January 2011 from 6pm to 8pm.

It would also be a short briefing session for Chingay volunteers so that volunteers with enquires could shoot away. This session is to sort things out and clarify other matters such as if your application status is successful or what group you are in.

Volunteer: SMU Blood Donation Drive

Dear NYAA members,

Singapore Management University’s (SMU) Red Cross Chapter is organising a public blood donation drive in the name of Singapore Red Cross held on the 10th to 12th of December 2010.

Objective:

Help ensure an adequate supply of blood for patients during the Christmas period. Through our drive, members of public are encouraged to start or continue donating blood, leading to a cumulative effect where more people will join us in this heroic and eventful act of blood donation.

Aim:

Reach out to a population of 10,000 for our event and target an approximate number of 800 donors this year.

This will be a meaningful event held in the city where we aim to reach out to individuals aged 18- 40 from all walks of life and tap on the weekend crowd especially during the Christmas season.

There are 3 main events that volunteers need to attend:

1. Training conducted by Singapore Red Cross

-Learn more about the specifics of blood donation

Date: 30 Nov (Tentatively)

2. Awareness drive

-Give out flyers to raise awareness

Date: 3-5 Dec

Time: 11am-6pm

Location: Around city area

3. Actual blood donation drive

-Station specific roles, such as registration, assisting the public in filling up the HSA blood donation questionnaire

Date: 10-12 Dec

Time: 12-6pm

Location: *SCAPE

Benefits:

-Community service hours (awarded based on no. of hours volunteered)
-CCA points (service)

*Volunteers should preferably commit their time on a full day basis.

International Committee of the Red Cross Young Reporter Competition

Participate in the ICRC Young Reporter Competition and get an inside look at the ICRC's humanitarian action, in collaboration with national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The four best entries will win a one-week mission to ICRC delegations in Georgia, Lebanon, Liberia and the Philippines. You will get to interview young people affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence and have a chance to report back to your peers, using your own words and creative talents. With the guidance and coaching of an ICRC communication specialist, selected candidates will produce a news report on their mission—in print or film—to be published and/or shown in a variety of media outlets. The finished products will be presented during a ceremony held in Geneva, Switzerland, around May 8, 2011.

Profile:
Age: 18-25
Excellent English and/or French language skills
Strong communication skills and creative expression
Ability to work as part of a multicultural team
Interest in youth issues and humanitarian action
Proven engagement in voluntary work related to social/humanitarian services

Other requirements:
Internet access
Valid passport
Proof of a previous communication project – article, photo project, video, radio. (If you do not have a previous humanitarian communication project ready to be submitted, you may create and submit one especially tailored to enter the competition.)
Letter of recommendation
Availability for a one week mission to an ICRC delegation (January or February 2011), as well as a trip to Geneva to present the finished product (May 2011)

Residential Project Activity!

VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT DRIVE - GUIDES NEEDED FOR CITY HALL OPEN HOUSE EVENT

The National Art Gallery, Singapore will be holding an open house of the City Hall and former Supreme Court buildings from 9 to 10 October 2010. This special weekend event will feature a string of events and activities, that will allow Singaporeans and visitors the opportunity to see, tour and experience the existing buildings as they are, before they are transformed into the new National Art Gallery.

They are looking for approximately 100 volunteers, to lead and guide tours through the historic buildings of City Hall and former Supreme Court. Volunteers will need to be at least 18 years old, attend all the training sessions, and commit to guiding at least ONE full tour session during the event. An interest in history, art and/or architecture will be an advantage. Volunteers will be required to conduct at least ONE tour, in either English, Mandarin, Malay or Tamil. Volunteers who can guide tours in other languages are also welcome.

The NYAA Council with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised the ASEAN Young
Photographers' Award 2010 in February 2010.
Each ASEAN member state has selected a national winner to receive the ASEAN Young
Photographers' Award 2010. The Award will be presented by Mr George Yeo,Minister for Foreign
Affairs on ASEAN Day celebration to be held at the Shangri-la Hotel Tower Ballroom on 5 August
2010.
During the visit by the winners of the ASEAN Member States to Singapore for the ceremony, the
NYAA Council would like to take this opportunity to conduct a Photography Workshop on 6 August
2010 from 2.30pm to 5.00pm to be held at the NYAA Council, 151 Lorong Chuan, #06-01 B (Lobby A)
New Tech Park, Singapore 556741.
The Photography Workshop will be conducted by Mr Chow Chee Yong, Senior Lecturer,
Photography/Visual Communication, Temasek Design School, Temasek Polytechnic.
The Workshop is opened to all NYAA Operating Authorities free-of-charge.Participants attending the
workshop will have the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with the
National Winners from the 10 ASEAN Member countries.

Skills Section

Hi guys,
NYAA Chapter has collaborated with Choir and Aerobic Club.
This can be a skill that you guys can learn for you to complete your “skills section”.
We have also spoken to the Aerobics Club as well, and these are the information they
have given to us:
-3 classes/week (1 hour each)
-classes are held in the gym studio
-Max. 30-35 intake in each class
-Semester fee of $30

The “Mini Heart Fair @ NP” is a new initiative brought forward by the Singapore Heart Foundation to further engage youths for heart health awareness. The mini fair will offer a variety of differing stations, such as health screening, games, and nutrisoy sampling.

We would like to invite you to be a part of the exciting fair as a volunteer. As a volunteer, you will enjoy new experiences and learn new skills such as health screening, communications with participants and much more. Details for the fair are as follows:

2nd Induction program with NYAA council representative

Hi guys,

we received feedback that some of you are still unsure what, how and why NYAA after our 1st Induction Program, and a few even missed the 1st Induction Program!!!

Therefore, we are organising a 2nd induction program with Eugene, a representative from NYAA Council at LT51c tomorrow 28th June.

Eugene will be conducting a briefing of NYAA from 4.30pm to 6.00pm, follow by our briefing of NP-NYAA Chapters by our committee member which will end by 7pm.

Do bring along some money to sign up for the award if you have not done so.

Hi everyone! Wanna complete your service section for your NYAA Awards while earning Service CCA points? Heres' your chance!! Join us as TOUCH Home Care's Meals-on-Wheels volunteer!!

Description: Meals-on-Wheels is a meal delivery programme to meet the daily needs of the home-bound elderly. The elderly, who usually live alone, depend on volunteers from TOUCH Home Care's Meals-on-Wheels to deliver their meals every day.

Our students meet at the student plaza at 4.15pm every week and make their way to the Toa Payoh Touch Community Services Centre during the school term. During the school break, volunteers meet at the centre at 4.30pm instead.

Frequency: Weekly, every Wednesday, 4.30pm-6.30pm

Yeaps, so anyways, we are gna organise a photoshop workshop!
To teach you how to use some of the basic functions of the software. :)

Well because the venue intended has only like 20+ computers? Unless response is so overwhelming, we will have to pair two to a computer.
Unfort. we couldn't book the computer lab, hence we will be booking a classroom and will require you to bring your own laptop on that day (lol). As for the version of the photoshop, prior to the class, please download and install the free 30-day trial of adobe photoshop CS3 here. This will help to reduce the amt of time downloading this software on that day and so that the class can start asap and as much can be learnt as well. :)
(do note that npnet is not the best connection for downloading, hence PLEASE PLEASE do it at home or wherever, before the class, ty:)

HEY! Great news everyone!

Recently got a "lobang" for community service.
Well, it's a one-time thing, so I'm sorry, no, you can't clock this in for your award.
(unless you continue doing street sales to clock in all your hours O.o)

Moving on to the details anyways.
As you might have already guessed, this is an event to sell bookmarks to the public.
The proceeds go to raising funds for Muhammadiyah Welfare Home (MWH) that helps delinquent youths from age 11.5 to 17 years.
I got this information from BA Cares*, which was the one who requested for manpower.
